Please be advised that there is a Community Consultation taking place on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. The meeting will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 6 p.m. The agenda is only Tobacco, and the community will be asked to make a decision on the Kahnawake Tobacco Law.
This meeting is very important, that the Tobacco Industry understands that we need to have this law passed and enforced as soon as possible. The passing of the Law will protect the Industry internally here in Kahnawake, for Kahnawake'ro:non to have the right to MAKE A LIVING, to provide jobs and stability and also to contribute to the Community of Kahnawake.
We are requesting that the Tobacco Industry come out to this important meeting to show support in maintaining our economy and ensuring that we have a future. Presently the external Governments have passed every kind of legislation to put a stop to our Industry, but we have to move forward as we have over the past 25 years. We must be able to determine that out TOBACCO INDUSTRY continues to maintain the economic impact that it has had over the years, by directly and indirectly contributing to the well being of every Kahnawake'ro:non.
The purpose of the February 10th Community Consultation meeting is to gain approval to move the Law forward through the Community Decision Making Process and to approve the urgency of the Law in order to enact legislation within a shorter timeframe than the regular process. Two questios will be asked at the Consultation and are as follows:
1. DOES THE COMMUNITY GIVE THE MANDATE TO MOVE THE LAW THROUGH THE CDMP?
2. DOES THE COMMUNITY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE kAHNAWAKE tOBACCO lAW IS AN URGENT MATTER AND NEEDS TO BE EXPEDITED?
PLEASE COME AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE KAHNAWAKE TOBACCO LAW, SO THAT THE INDUSTRY MAY CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THE JOBS AND ECONOMIC BENEFITS TO OUR COMMUNITY, AS IT HAS BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS.
